The Red Nature of Mammalga is a performative installation fusing red algal and human bodies. In the aftermath of rethinking nature as green we suggest a luscious red biodesign installation. The concept is situated around the evolutionary biology of red algae ( rhodophyta ) offering a complimentary view to the contemporary era of green design. Whilst articulating both the sensual and visual connection between human and algae we investigate what happens aesthetically when the chlorophyll green is switched around with the complementary blushing astaxanthin pigment of red algae.

Red algae ritual mantra:

tide red-orange
sea fruit red-orange
antioxidant activity
transferred from one
organism to another
the red nature of mammalga

here we drink
from primordial genesis
with origins in slime
our branching blood morphology
brings hydrophilic memories
of cellular ancestors
forever algal
the red nature of mammalga

when all things green turn red
entangled with ultraviolet
through chemical compositions
and constant transmutations
the red nature of mammalga

this is our bodies
protein, water and time
woven into mammals
fractal fruits and branching veins
cellular chimeras, ongoing osmosis
the red nature of mammalga
